Back story:

The second I was ready to start shaving my dad handed me a Gillette Fusion razor (6 bladed) with a couple of cartridges. I never thought anything of it, because I was very young. As I started having sleep overs and getting closer with my girl friends, I noticed they all used these pink and purple razor blades. I remember asking my friend what brand they where, I just had to get my hands on a pink razor. She told me they where the Venus razors (3 bladed), and handed me her extra one. The next time I needed to shave, I pulled out the Venus razor and went to town. OW! was my whole thought process during this shaving experience. I disliked the razor and never even gave it a second thought. I cut myself and got razor burn from re shaving areas repeatedly, because the hair just wouldn't shave. Now, the Venus razor may work for some of you, but keep in mind I am 100% Azorean. My body hair is thick, dark, and course. I fell right back into the arms of my Gillette Fusion razor and 12 years later we broke up and here's why...

A normal cartridge, of 4 razor heads, from Walmart for my Gillette Fusion costs me $20.00. I tend to go through razor heads rapidly, because of the rate my hair grows and how thick it is. Approximately every 3 weeks I would be buying razor cartridges.

Let's do the math, that's $30.00 a month.

Supporting myself, I am always on the look out for the best deals. One day as I'm browsing social media I come across the Dollar Shave Club Razor Blades (Sounded too good to be true.) My curiosity lead me to order a razor from the Dollar Shave Club. I ordered "The Executive", because I love 6 bladed razors. The Executive is the most expensive razor they offer, $1 for the first month which includes a razor stick, a cartridge with 4 heads, and a free sample of their Dr. Carver's Shave Butter. Then $9 every month after that for one cartridge of 4 razor heads. They have multiple great options: you can skip a month, set it so you receive cartridges bi-monthly, request different items such as; shaving butters, razor handles, multiple cartridges, etc.

Review:

Starting with the handle, it has rubber all through out the grip making it very comfortable. The cartridge case isn't super secure, I accidentally dropped it in my sink and all the razor heads flew out (which honestly doesn't bother me, because my razor heads sit in a drawer the whole time.) I was surprised to see a free sample of Dr. Carver's Shave Butter, which I would have accidentally thrown away, because it was under the packaging tucked in the box. The shave butter felt exactly like conditioner to me, and smelt wonderful (hard to explain, maybe herbaceous is the word I'm looking for.) I used the shave butter on one of my legs and proceeded to shave, I got a wonderful smooth close shave! I used my regular shaving product (Athena's Home Novelties: Supreme cream) on my opposite leg, same results! Finally, I shaved my armpits with a bar of regular Dove soap, same results!

It's definitely similar to the Gillette Fusion Razor (6 bladed) for less than half the price, it's safe to say I'm in it for the long haul. However, I'm not interested in the Dr. Carver's Shaving Butter for myself. The shave butter is so similar to the product I use already, which actually costs me less in comparison to the ounces. But I can definitely see my boyfriend using this product, since he shaves rarely, it would be worth it for him (plus it comes in manlier packaging lol.)
